Intimate partner violence occurs in all communities including our Veteran community. In fact, women Veterans are more likely to experience IPV than their civilian counterparts. Organizations, like JCADA, that help people experiencing IPV undoubtedly serve women Veterans. Therefore, educating ourselves about how to best serve this special population is essential to providing JCADA’s trauma-informed, culturally-humble services.
Presenters will provide a brief overview of IPV among women Veterans, including the prevalence, health and psychosocial impacts, and unique considerations for care. Presenters will further describe clinical programming within the Veterans Health Administration's (VHA) screening programs and interventions designed to help Veterans heal from IPV. Presenters will also share how community partners can connect with IPV Assistance Program Coordinators at local VHA hospitals.
