What Does Overturning Roe Mean for IPV Survivors?

Access to reproductive healthcare has a significant impact on victims and survivors of sexual and domestic violence. In this session, representatives with Fairfax County Domestic and Sexual Violence Services (DSVS) and community partners will discuss the legal, health, and safety impacts on victims and survivors of sexual and domestic violence following the United States Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Presenters will discuss potential impacts of restricted access to reproductive healthcare, how it is often connected to domestic violence, and what community resources and services are available to help. Many studies show that intimate partner violence can get worse during pregnancy. When access to reproductive healthcare is restricted, pressure by a spouse or partner to keep or end a pregnancy and control over birth control may also increase.
